My therapeutic style

Experience

Life is a journey of numerous experiences. When we encounter obstacles, transitions, and adversity time and time again, life can begin to feel like too much to handle.

As your therapist, I will aim to help you process your experiences, heal, make appropriate and meaningful changes for your future, and become the best version of yourself. I am focused on providing therapy through an anti-oppressive, intersectional, culturally sensitive, and informed lens to all persons inclusive of BIPOC, minority, and immigrant communities. I am dedicated to ensuring that all my clients feel safe, respected, and supported in their journeys towards wellness with me.

Husainat is currently a Registered Psychotherapist member of the CRPO. She completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health with a minor in Psychology at Carleton University, and earned her master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.

Over the years, Husainat has been involved in activism and advocacy to break the stigma surrounding mental health, increase mental health awareness, improve education about mental health, and address the need for accessibility to mental health services for racialized communities and all communities.

In addition, she has volunteer experience as a peer support worker, providing support and crisis interventions in various settings and communities, and delivering mental health workshops focused on mental health literacy and anti-oppression.

More than just my work

My favourite quote:

“The irony is that we attempt to disown our difficult stories to appear more
whole or more acceptable, but our wholeness - even our wholeheartedness - actually depends on the integration of all of our experiences, including the falls.”

- Brené Brown
