Emotional Support and Validation
Pregnancy and postpartum bring a whirlwind of emotions, from joy and excitement to anxiety and self-doubt. Therapy provides a safe space to express these feelings without judgment, helping new and expecting mothers feel heard and understood. A therapist can offer reassurance, coping strategies, and perspective shifts that ease the transition into motherhood, reducing feelings of isolation or guilt.

Managing Stress, Anxiety, and Depression
Hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, and lifestyle adjustments can contribute to increased stress, anxiety, or even postpartum depression. Therapy can help mothers recognize early signs of mental health challenges and develop strategies to manage overwhelming emotions. With the right support, mothers can learn how to set realistic expectations, cope with intrusive thoughts, and prevent these challenges from affecting their overall well-being and bonding with their baby.

Strengthening Relationships and Support Systems
Motherhood can impact relationships, whether with a partner, family, or friends. Therapy can provide tools for effective communication, conflict resolution, and boundary-setting, ensuring that mothers feel supported in their journey. It can also help navigate shifts in identity and balance personal needs with the demands of parenting, leading to a healthier and more fulfilling postpartum experience.

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Hi, I'm Danielle!
The maternity and postpartum period can sometimes bring with it new and unexpected challenges. I often work with people who are experiencing overwhelming feelings of uncertainty around maintaining their sense of self and self-worth; relating to their partners in their new roles as parents; discovering the family values they want to foster; and setting boundaries with well-meaning extended family and friends. I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help new parents identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, and I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to deepen emotional connection and strengthen relationships during this transformative time. My Compassion Focused and Culturally Sensitive approaches allow me to hold space for the diverse experiences of new parents, offering warmth, validation, and respect for each individual's background. For more than 20 years, I’ve been supporting new parents as they navigate this transition, and I would be honoured to join you on your journey.
